lonesometiger is my alias, my real name is Katrin Bretscher, and I'm a photographer based in Zurich, Switzerland. I was born in Zurich, Switzerland in November 1981. The decade of my childhood brought forth the music I love, though I didn't know about that until it was already over: With the first three or so bars of "Welcome to the Jungle" some time in 1992, I went from ballet-dancing nice little girl to die-hard rocker.
Spent my childhood falling off of trees and arguing with my brother, turning up the volume to 11, and rocking out. Though, my dad must've seen *something* coming when I came home from a two-week vacation with twenty-five rolls of film that I'd shot. He refused to have them all developed.
I got my first experience shooting concerts headbanging along in front row at a festival in 2002 - with a cardboard disposable cam with no zoom. On most pictures you just see a startled security guy and somewhere behind his shoulder a bright spot that could be the stage if you looked closely. But who would be discouraged by that?
I love music, and as most people do, when I go to see live music, I call it "to watch a concert". Or do you go to "listen" to a concert? As a photographer, I'm a very visual person, so the light show on a stage is to me like a guitar to a rock'n'roller. Add to that a band, good sound, and a great performance, and you got me shooting photos all night long. Though I'd mostly call myself a live photographer, I also tour with bands and shoot band portraits, or the odd editorial picture. Meine Kindheit verbrachte ich damit, von Bäumen zu fallen, mit meinem Bruder zu streiten, die Regler bis Stufe 11 aufzudrehen und abzurocken. Mein Vater hat wohl irgendwas kommen sehen, als ich nach zwei Wochen Ferien mit fünfundzwanzig Rollen Film nach Hause kam. Er weigerte sich, alle entwickeln zu lassen.
Meine ersten Erfahrungen mit der Konzertfotografie machte ich 2002, headbangend in der ersten Reihe, mit einer Einwegkamera ohne Zoom. Auf den meisten Bildern sieht man nur einen etwas verwirrten Ordner und irgendwo hinter seiner Schulter einen hellen Fleck, der die Bühne sein könnte, wenn man genau hinschaut. Das hielt mich aber von gar nix ab!
Ich liebe Musik, und wie die meisten Leute rede ich, wenn ich Livemusik gucken gehe "ein Konzert schauen". Wer geht schon "ein Konzert hören"? Als Fotografin bin ich eine visuelle Person, für mich ist Bühnenlicht wie eine Gitarre für einen Rocker. Wirft man noch eine Band, guten Sound und tolle Performance in den Mix, bin ich schon den ganzen Abend am Fotos knipsen. Ich würde mich selber am ehesten als Live-Fotografin bezeichnen, ich gehe aber auch mit Bands auf Tournee und mache Bandportraits, ab und zu auch ein etwas künstlerischeres. Vielleicht trifft's Livemusik-, Tour- und Kunstportraitfotografin am ehesten?
